Biography
Mr. Robert Holland “Sandy” Brady is a life-long passionate outdoorsman who selflessly encourages future generations to safely and ethically pursue conservation. He has committed decades to teaching fieldcraft, firearms safety, and wildlife identification for hundreds of youths. Sandy is truly a faithful and resolute woodsman who continually strives to help others grow through positive and meaningful outdoor experiences.
Sandy Brady was born and raised in Reidsville, North Carolina. His father, Pat Foy Brady, was a family man, a successful business leader, a highly accomplished amateur golfer, and an avid outdoorsman who introduced Sandy to hunting and fishing at a very early age. Pat Foy, known to many in the outdoor world as “Eagle Eye” served as an influential role model and a hero to Sandy. Pat Foy strongly encouraged Sandy to view hunting and outdoor activities as a gift and a tradition to pass down to future generations.
In the late 1980s, Sandy forged his outdoor career as a guide with Forester Ranches in South Dakota. Sandy randomly met Tom Miranda, an acclaimed bowhunter, trapper, author, and television producer, at a local convenience store and they immediately formed a valuable professional relationship. From 1987-1994, Sandy and Tom created approximately thirty “how to” instructional videos on “VHF Tapes” on hunting and trapping well before such content was readily available on the internet. In addition, Sandy and Tom pioneered some of the first hunting content that aired on the major cable TV network ESPN.
In 2007, Sandy experienced personal and professional adversity that would forever alter his perspective on: family, work, friendships, recreation, and his faith. Sandy reflected on these challenges as steppingstones to overcome and created the Traveling Pocket Cross Ministry out of Tobacco Sticks as a symbol of love, hope and second chances. To date, Sandy has passed out over 176,400 Pocket Crosses to serve as a powerful symbol to be thankful and kind.
Sandy’s resilience and faith have fueled him to continue pursuing his passion to encourage all walks of life to positively experience the outdoor world. Sandy serves as the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Official Grand National Award Creative Artist for the Calling Championship, the Call-Making Championship, and the Taxidermy Championship. Sandy serves as a Board Member for several prestigious conservation organizations and creates beautiful awards for: the North Carolina Wildlife Habitat Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Delta Waterfowl. Sandy also serves as an active member of the KT Team, a nonprofit in Georgia that specializes in providing quadriplegics and other disabled persons with profound outdoor experiences following their tragic accidents.
Sandy has selflessly dedicated countless hours toward protecting wildlife habitat and promoting conservation experiences for future generations. In this capacity, Sandy advocated for the Foundation’s partnership with the National Wild Turkey Federation to acquire a 209-acre Payne Branch Tract to expand permit turkey and deer hunt opportunities in Forsyth/ Stokes Counties. Sandy also volunteers for the Foundation’s Annual Youth Turkey
Event and provides access to private land; as well as coordinating experienced mentors to lead truly rewarding hunting opportunities for multiple youths on opening day. Sandy also personally coordinates with the National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, the North Carolina Bowhunters Association, and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission to assist with conducting the Foundation’s 2-day Youth Sportsman Camp. To date, the NCWHF Youth Sportsman Camp has provided over 533 youth with important conservation training consisting of: firearms safety, fishing techniques, how to call for waterfowl and turkeys, and tree stand safety.
