Biography
Ron Wong was born in Sacramento, CA in 1947 and moved to Memphis, TN in 1960. He attended Westwood High School and then Memphis State University on a band scholarship. Ron entered to U.S. Navy in 1968 and made 4 cruises to Vietnam before receiving an honorable discharge in 1970.
From 1971-1975, he worked at Surplus City in Memphis as the main buyer and the manager of the fishing department. Then from 1975-2019, he worked at FedEx with the last 12 years of his employment in the Corporate Communications Community Relations department.
Ron’s main objective in life was to help sustain our natural resources for all to enjoy and to continue to grow the sport of fishing. He accomplished this by becoming a media contributor and photographer for outdoors events and organizations.
He was a staple on the Outdoors with Larry Rea radio program for the past 18 years, Guest Host for the television show Mid-South Outdoors, Host of Cable 6 Mid-South Fishing, media contributor and fishing reporter for the Mid-South Hunting and Fishing News, media contributor for Mississippi Sportsmen, official photographer and website media contributor for the American Crappie Trail, official photographer and media contributor to lroutdoors.com, and the Official Photographer of the Legends of the Outdoors.
He had over 70 years of bass fishing experience. He served on the B’n’M Fishing Pro Staff for many years, received numerous fishing competition awards, and is the only two-time winner of the St. Jude Bass Classic (when it was an individual competition).
Ron was also a member of the following non-profit organizations: the Tennessee Outdoors Writers Association, Commission for Missing and Exploited Children, and Fishers of Kids Angler Academy.
