Biography

Fred Ramsay was born in 1951 in Oregon, Missouri. Where he attended South Holt High School. During his senior year he got his start in the outdoor industry by guiding trout fishing excursions on Lake Taneycomo. After graduating in 1969, Fred began working for the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Rail Road.

During this time he started gaining local notoriety for his ability to hunt deer with a recurve bow after a handful of articles documenting his skills were published in local newspapers.
Fred started giving hunting speeches and seminars at events and shows all over Missouri and surrounding states in 1981 and continues today.

Ramsay was a professional manufacturing representative for the Pro Line Archery company from 1983-1985. In 1986, Fred was approached to host an outdoor radio show on 680 KFEQ out of St Joseph, Mo. Fred has always been on the radio throughout his career with various stations including a partnership with Remington where he was simulcast in 9 midwestern states to introduce and promote their new at the time Versamax shotgun. Almost 40 years later he is still on the air, now with Sports Radio 810 WHB Kansas City.

During the mid 1990s, Ramsay started to host and produce an outdoor television show titled “The American Outdoorsman”. The show originally aired in St. Joseph and Springfield, Missouri, as well as Topeka, Kansas. With the rise of satellite television that came with the 21st century, Fred began broadcasting his show nationally on the Outdoor Channel filming in 1999 and aired nationally starting in 2000. The show ran coast to coast for over 10 years. Thanks to the television show he was able to hunt and fish with many celebrities and friends along the way!

Fred Ramsay was also inducted into the Waterfowler Hall of Fame in Mound City, Missouri, in 2015.
